Project: Modesto Irrigation District Stanislaus County, California USA
Installation of 60" (1.52M) diameter drinking water pipe
Equipment: Towable Soil Cement Plant for mixing cement and water to native soil to produce a soil cement slurry backfill material at high production rates, 200-250 T/hr (181-227 Metric T/hr)
Note: The contractor successfully removed sandy-loam, native soil from the trench for the 60" (1.52M) diameter water pipe; processed the soil through the Soil Cement Plant adding cement and water; and used the resulting wet soil cement material (flowable backfill) for bedding around the pipe.

Excavated soil dug from trench used to fill canal bottom providing a path for processing equipment

Excavated soil in canal bottom provides a low flow channel for canal water

Excavator used to dig soil out of canal bottom and load it into soil processor

The soil processor added kiln dust, water and mixed the soil to make a flowable backfill

Flowable backfill being discharged over the 60" diameter pipe to spring line.  Care was taken not to float the pipe

Front end loader was used to backfill over the top of the pipe and compact the soil
