The S1500 Slipform Paver, the big brother to the S850, is designed to meet strict smoothness specifications for markets that require paving widths from 18’-0” (5.5m) to 42 ’-0” (12.8m). Width under 18' (5.5m) are possible if specified at the time of order. The S1500 Slipform Paver is ideally suited for concrete slipform paving on mainline highways, secondary roads, lane additions, airport runways, taxiways and aprons.
The new S1500 is similar to the S850 with the following exceptions:
- Tractor frame is deeper to allow it to go out to 52' (16m). The telescopic ability of the S1500 frame is from 18 ft to 42 ft. (5.5m to 12.8m) with the double telescopic frame capability with a hose / cable tray like the S850 Paver.
- The bolsters are heavier duty, deeper, and are only available in conventional pivot type. New design allows the bolsters to be swung inboard for crossing narrow bridges and swung to the outboard position for loading and transport on a trailer without removing the bolsters. No adjusting turnbuckles are required to hold pivot bolsters in position in G&Z's unique new design. The paving kit can be removed easily to reduce transport weight using the tractor to load the paving kit on a trailer.
- The jacking columns are of similar design to the S850 but scaled up to handle the larger square male steadments, larger elevation cylinders and steering cylinders.
- The crawler tracks are D4 size (vs D3 size on the S850)are longer, wider, and have larger planetary gearboxes than the S850.
The controls, pumping unit, vertical sensor supports, front tie bar inserter (FTBI), spreader plow track, winch motor, plow cart, paving kit, sideforms, rear walkway, trailing finishing pan, Final Finisher, etc. are the same as the S850 Paver.
The S1500 also has an option to add an additional vibrator pump and a larger 440 HP (328 kW) CAT engine required when DBI is used at widths over 34’ (10.5m).
